Bursting the Speech Bubble

With According to McGee, funded by Arts Council England’s Grants for the Arts, ‘Bursting The Speech Bubble’ provides platforms for the thoughts, opinions and aspirations of groups of young people traditionally excluded from city-wide conversations due to their perceived vulnerability. Says director Greg McGee, “We’ve worked with a range of young people across the city in collaboration with City of York Council and schools in Acomb, as well as the Blueberry Academy.” The project saw an interface coded by young people from the University of York and York schools, and has been used on York Explore’s game-changing, multi-touch surface Platform 46. The same interface, used to collect stories in a complementary and collaborative fashion, will be used by charity STRETCH Digital, the only charity in the UK to take i-Pods into UK Prisons.
